TAMPA, FL – The Florida Council on Aging (FCOA) announced Charlotte McHenry as this year’s recipient of the 2018 Quality Senior Living Award, also known as the Dr. Carter Osterbind Outstanding FCOA Member Award. Nominees for the award were judged based on their high level of personal or organizations commitment on behalf of older adults in Florida.
“I am just one of many people who have made it our life’s work to improve the lives of seniors. I am honored to receive this award from my peers at the Florida Council on Aging,” said Charlotte McHenry.
McHenry’s nomination was based on her 30+ year career of working on behalf of seniors. This experience has taught her that many older adults are dealing with difficult circumstances, such as declining health, lack of mobility, memory disorders, hearing loss and poverty, all of which can cause seniors to become isolated and no longer have a voice. McHenry is devoted to finding ways of addressing immediate needs, as well as advocating and planning for the future of older adults. She provides important ongoing advocacy to educate legislators about the needs of older and disabled adults, and the impact their vote can have on program funding. McHenry serves on the Elder Hunger Sub-Committee of the Tampa Bay Bold Goal Initiative and has a history of working on other community projects that address the needs of the elderly and persons with disabilities.
McHenry states, “I hope this recognition can help to shed light on the issues that many frail and vulnerable seniors face, as well as encourage our neighbors to work together to improve the lives of seniors throughout our community.”
