Wow – the Holidays are already over and behind us! With the New Year well under way – improving on your own health should be a priority! We’re not talking about losing weight or your New Year’s resolutions. And let’s face it, one person’s view of what is healthy may not work for you!
There are 3 simple ways to help set your own healthy habits:
- Know Your Numbers
- Know Your Medication Coverage
- Know your Pharmacist
Know Your Numbers:
It is highly recommended to get your health screening yearly so you can own your plan for healthy improvements. Time to get the following tests: Blood Glucose, Cholesterol, Body Composition (BMI), and Blood Pressure.
- Blood sugar (glucose) – goal is < 130 mg/dL
- Total blood cholesterol – goal is < 180 mg/dL
- Body mass index – goal is < 25 kg/m2
- Blood pressure – goal is 120/80 mmHG or less
Know Your Medication Coverage:
Every year changes in your insurance happen, and it is hard to know what you should clarify to make sure you are getting the most benefits that you can. Questions you should be asking to help reduce medication cost:
- Is your Pharmacy a preferred Pharmacy that may offer additional savings and benefits?
- What is the formulary tier for each of your medications?
- Do you take medications for more than one medical condition?
- What is the yearly cost of your medications?
Know Your Pharmacist:
You can save money by reviewing your medication list with your Pharmacist, a program called Medication Therapy Management: a face to face meeting with your pharmacist to discuss your Disease States and Medication profile. Together you can determine how to save money and improve adherence. Next, download your Pharmacy App to your mobile device and manage your own medications.
Implementing these healthy habits can help you have a happy and healthy New Year!
